Strange noises heard at night outside window and tracks found. Read more...
I think a whole family of Sasquatch have been living around the Caddo Lake area for years. My brother and I saw one peering at us through the window one night. We were 3 and 4 at the time. This was sometime in late 1946 or early 1947 because we moved to Shreveport later in 1947. We lived on the Southeast side of the lake near Mooringsport, La. The front of the house faced the lake and was only a few yards from the lake itself. There was thick woods all around us. We will never forget that sight. It looked like a man, with hair all over its face and arms (He put his hand on the glass), and big huge eyes which widened even more when we started screaming, then backed away and ran. My brother and I still talk about it to this day. I think the light from the house and the noise inside (we had relatives over that night) attracted it to the window. Our relatives ran outside to investigate, but found nothing, of course. I don't know who was more scared, the "thing" or my brother and I. Just want everyone to know I did see one although my family thinks all we saw was a "bear". There are no bears that big in this neck of the woods. The house was on tall piers and it had to be 7-8 ft. tall to be able to peer in the window

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, in the late 1940s.
I spoke with the witness 27 Dec 2004 for about an hour and found her to be very credible. Normally when we hear from a 3 or 4 year old, we dismiss the story as an overactive imagination. However, in this case the witness and her brother have talked of this event all their lives and are confident of what they saw. In our conversation some more details have arisen.
The location of their home which was a lakeside camp house structure was located at the water's edge approximately 1 1/2 miles east of Mooringsport, Louisiana on what is now Oaklawn Road. In the late 1940s this was very remote heavily wooded swampland. Now it is a highly developed gated community with no sign of the original camp house. The house was built high off the ground as most camp houses in the area to keep it dry during the yearly winter and spring floods. I agree with her assessment that whole family or families live in the area. Due to development of lake front land, they have had to move mostly to the north side of the lake where the flooding has kept people from building. The small Louisiana black bears (Ursus americaus luteolus) of this area are normally no larger than 150 pounds and standing on their hind legs should not be able to look into a window that high off the ground.
This area is just below the Caddo Lake Dam which controls most of the flooding, allowing development. The dam was built in 1971 approximately 25 years after this incident.
The witness remembered that the subject's eyes reflected a soft orange color. Their room was lit by kerosene lanterns which were common at that time. In fact, this reminded me of my own youth, living without electricity; our home was lit by kerosene lanterns and any reflection was a soft orange from the flame. Both witnesses noticed the eyes got much larger when they screamed.
Another fact that came to mind while talking was that the family had been cooking outside just before the event which may have attracted wildlife to their location in the first place.
This area is on the Texas-Louisiana border and continues to generate reported sightings to this day on both the Louisiana and Texas sides of the border.
