Witness Observation

My friend and I saw a large hairy animal squatting down on the river bank. I was drawing its hand to its mouth. We shined our spot light on the animal. It raised up very quick and let out a loud scream. It then turned and ran back into the woods.

Physical Evidence

When the animal turned to run from the spotlight, it mowed down everything in its path.

Sounds

When we shined the spotlight to see what was making the noise, the animal let out a scream. We did hear leaves and tree limbs cracking.

Additional Observations

It was very tall, maybe 8 feet in height. It had hair all over its body. The color of the animal was black and brown. It had long arms. There was a heavy musky smell.

Time and Conditions

12:00 AM - Wooded area, chicken farms, cattle ranches, deer and wild pigs.

Investigator's Comments

Craig Woolheater

This investigation was conducted as a result of a reported sasquatch encounter that allegedly occurred in Montgomery County, Texas, in Spring of 1973.

The witness and I talked at length about this reported sighting on 7 August 2002. The alleged sighting took place near Conroe, Texas, in Montgomery County. The witness does not remember the exact date of the sighting; he believes it happened sometime in April or May of 1973 or 1974. The witness would have been 14 or 15 years old. The weather was humid and warm. There was a full moon.

The witness and a friend were camping out along the San Jacinto River bank. This location was not far from his house. They only camped out during a full moon. They were fishing for catfish.

Around midnight, they heard rustling of leaves and tree limbs. The noise came from the other side of the river. They saw something moving about 20-40 feet from them. They picked up a spotlight and shined it across the river.

They saw what they thought was an animal that appeared to be standing roughly nine feet tall. It was squatting down at the water, bringing its hand to its mouth. The subject had "black and brown" hair all over its body. It had long arms. There was a heavy musky smell in the air. When the light of the beam illuminated the subject, it reportedly "let out a loud scream," turned and ran back in to the woods. The witness stated that he and his fishing partner could hear it running through the woods. It was breaking and smashing limbs and branches.

The next day, the boys told the friend's father about what they had seen. The father laughed at them. However, when he realized how serious they were about it, the father notified the sheriff's office. Apparently, the local authorities showed up at the residence but did not investigate. They insisted that the boys must have seen a large cow.

The boys walked over to the other side of the river and saw where the subject had run through the woods. There was a path were brush and limbs were knocked down.

The witness described the subject as resembling a gorilla and stated that it "definitely was not human."

The boys never camped in that area again.

Class 1b
A report investigation results in a sasquatch observation or the documentation of clear tracks or other forms of physical evidence by an investigator.
Class 1c
An investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot by a very reliable observer is a distinct possibility, tangible corroborating evidence is documented, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 1d
A visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility involving two or more reliable observers, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 2
Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is exceptionally trustworthy, professionally trained, and experienced in the outdoors and/or is accustomed to looking for and recording details (e.g., biologist, anthropologist/archaeologist, ranger, trapper/tracker/seasoned hunter, bird watcher, game warden, naturalist, law enforcement), and other explanations can be reasonably excluded.
Class 3a
Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is credible, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 3b
Unidentifiable vocalizations were reported and there is accompanying tangible evidence to possibly indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot, the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 3c
No visual encounter occurred, but physical evidence was found to indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot (tracks, hair, scat, etc.), the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
