Witness Observation

Easter Sunday. My husband, two girls 6 and 9 years old and myself had completed our Easter visits with family and decided to take the girls out his family's land to let them be in nature and give him a chance to target practice.

We drove through the gate on the dirt road until we came to an open pasture on the right (these pastures are planted for deer hunting) We parked the car in this open area. Walked back to dirt road and went East to a little pond. Let girls see tadpoles and throw rocks. When from behind us, there was loud crunching in brush. We decided to move back toward the car. After hearing nothing more, my husband wanted to shoot pistol. We crossed dirt road immediately across from pasture where car parked to a deep ravine. I am 5 ft 7 husband 5 ft 10. The sides of ravine was over our head.

We shot several times when suddenly, a large animal lunged into the ravine in front of us only about 10 to 15 feet. He paused, looked at us and then in one leap, jumped out of ravine. We froze for a moment then husband grabbed 6 year and I took the hand of 9 year old. We ran towards the car. And to our surprise, the loud brush noises indicated the animal was running toward our car. It stopped in brush line immediately in front of our car. We unlocked drivers door and shoved kids in climbing in behind. He jumped in ravine between us and the target.

Sounds

We heard nothing and it remained perfectly still as we passed.

Additional Observations

One of my concerns is the descriptions I've heard are not the same animal we saw. This animal was grayish in color. Hair long about 5-6 inches. It wasn't very thick hair, seemed as if you could almost see skin through hair. Very wide shoulders, his upper arms were very long, linear and powerful looking. His thigh bones were also very long. Unlike the drawings of bigfoot, he had a short neck and round head. Far more human looking than the blocky thick shapes of drawings.

Time and Conditions

Late afternoon. - Woods and a few open pastures with a small pond. This is a 460 acre track of private property. There is a deep old river bed located there (perhaps it was an old road that was worn down very deep). The light was good.

Investigator's Comments

Craig Woolheater

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Harrison County, Texas in 1979.

The witnesses indicated that what they saw does not seem to fit the "classic" description of what is normally associated with bigfoot encounters. I found nothing contrary in their description as it seemed plausible to infer that what they allegedly saw could have been an elderly individual. There are reports of sasquatches with gray and/or graying patches of hair. Both humans and the great apes also experience graying hair tones in older individuals.

The individual sasquatch that my wife and I saw in Louisiana was gray; it too may have been an older individual sasquatch.

Class 1b
A report investigation results in a sasquatch observation or the documentation of clear tracks or other forms of physical evidence by an investigator.
Class 1c
An investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot by a very reliable observer is a distinct possibility, tangible corroborating evidence is documented, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 1d
A visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility involving two or more reliable observers, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 2
Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is exceptionally trustworthy, professionally trained, and experienced in the outdoors and/or is accustomed to looking for and recording details (e.g., biologist, anthropologist/archaeologist, ranger, trapper/tracker/seasoned hunter, bird watcher, game warden, naturalist, law enforcement), and other explanations can be reasonably excluded.
Class 3a
Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is credible, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 3b
Unidentifiable vocalizations were reported and there is accompanying tangible evidence to possibly indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot, the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
Class 3c
No visual encounter occurred, but physical evidence was found to indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot (tracks, hair, scat, etc.), the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
